Meet Republican Matt Schulte

The only Republican on a five-member county board — and the one vote that keeps asking what things cost.

Matt Schulte was elected to the Lancaster County Board in 2022. Representing District 3, he has worked to emphasize fiscal responsibility, community engagement, and individual liberties, with an approach to leadership built on practical solutions and proactive governance.

Since taking office, Matt has prioritized fiscal responsibility during the budget — minimizing unnecessary expenditures and making sure tax dollars are spent judiciously. He engages constituents directly to understand their concerns and brings that feedback into policy discussions.

He has also been an advocate for public safety, equipping local law enforcement with the resources needed to keep the community safe while respecting citizens' rights. In May, Republican voters renominated him for a second term.

  • Took the county from 12 closed bridges in 2022 down to 1 in 2026.
  • Delivering the largest federally funded projects in the district's history: the Saltillo Road replacement and the 68th Street widening.
  • Replaced the Village of Denton's bridge, protecting access to the village water system.

  • Upgraded body cameras for the Sheriff's Department.
  • Put smart-connected radios in the hands of deputies.
  • Worked with rural fire districts to replace pagers, so volunteer firefighters get the call faster.

  • Cut funding for 19 positions in the 2025 budget.
  • Directed $12 million in hotel tax to attractions that draw visitors to Lancaster County.
